The 3rd International Summer School 2017

The 3rd International Summer School will be held at Duy Tan University (DTU), Da Nang from 28 to 31, August 2017. The School aims to improve knowledge and research skills for current or prospective PhD students who are developing their interests in academic research as a very stepping stone towards a successful academic research career in the fields of Electronics – Telecommuncations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The School consists of a series of talks of academic interest and transferable skills, lectured by professors from leading universities in the UK and Canada. In addition to enhancing the knowledge and research skills through courses lectured by professors from leading universities in the world, the speakers provide students with information on available scholarships and how to successfully apply, how to find and work with supervisors, how to live overseas, etc., to pursue PhD in the UK and Canada.

1. Time and venue

Successful candidates will be awarded travel and accommodations grants (please see the section 4).

2. Participants

  • Final-year and postgraduate students (PGA > 8) and masters degree holders majoring in electronics and telecommunication or ICT and pursuing PhD programme overseas
  • English competence should be sufficient to engage lectures and discussions

3. Programme

  • Advanced research skills: how to search for literature more effectively, how to avoid plagiarism, academic writing and presenting skills, writing a peer review for an academic journal.
  • Publishing an ISI journal: structure of a journal, using software packages, drafting response to reviewers.
  • Research directions (hot spots) in Electrical Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications.
  • PhD scholarship: how to obtain a scholarship to pursue PhD in Europe, US, Australia or other developed countries; Vietnamese Government scholarship program; Other scholarship funding schemes.
  • Researcher careers: pursuing an academic career – the career ladder, doctoral careers outside higher education.

4. Travel and accommodations grants

Duy Tan University will provide the successful candidates with:

  • 20 travel grants (1.000.000VND/grant for the ones faraway from Quang Binh and Phu Yen provinces.
  • Free accommodations for all not living in Da Nang City.

5. Participant recruiment process

All interested candidates are invited to send their application as a single PDF file via email. The application should include:

  • Applicant’s personal data and contact details.
  • Postgraduate transcript.
  • CV: The format and content are left to the applicant’s discretion. CV should not exceed one page.
  • Motivation statement: Explain why you think you are suitable for this summer school, and how the summer school will support your future success. Motivation part should not exceed 800 words.

  • Notification: 24 July, 2017
  • Summer school: 28-31 August, 2017
